Sicko

By Cheryl Casone

Yesterday, we had Bruce Weinstein on once again. The Ethics Guy from Business Week. This is the guy that says you should not gamble at work, you should not date at work, you should not (insert thought here) at work. Basically, it is all work and no play to this guy!

Here’s the video, see for yourself!

I know what Bruce is saying, I just think that our culture is such a work hard, get it done or else culture, and we are not the French. There is guilt in not coming to work, sick or not sick. It is what makes us such a productive and great country. What do you guys think? Agree or disagree?

Common sense is a cure for much that ails us. Yeah probably not smart going to work with the flu but we were taught growing up to play sports with a certain degree of pain so a boss isn’t going have sympathy for the sniffles. CC, Bruce needs to read the book Fish about improved production with a fun workplace or better yet The Four Hour Workweek and not work for anyone but yourself. Oink, Oink!

Why is it, as an employer, it is just about impossible to find an American who really wants to work, and will do a quality job? If you don’t think that is true, try dealing with companies who you have a working relationship with, seems that most of their emloyees could care less what kind of job they do! There are a few exceptions.

I have to agree with Bruce to some extent. If you are on lunch or a break, then discussing some hot issues may be okay.

I have had bosses that will hold your position on political subjects against you, so I say be careful. Also, we have gone so overboard on sexual harassment rules, that almost any joke can be held against you.

Also, start trading emails on this stuff on the job and you can be caught and it can be held against you. As a IT Manager for several years, I was officially asked to retrieve this data for the bosses in certain situations, so I know. Also your Internet activity can get you in real trouble or even jail(child porn). I worked on some of those cases as well.

So Bruce is right. Do this stuff on your own time and on your own computer. At least keep everything low key and in good humor, otherwise be careful.

PS: I watch you and Tom on FBN in the morning as I do my spinning. Like it very much.
