    Snooping on Tom Sullivan

I decided today to read through my partner's email at Fox Business.  Tom Sullivan and I co-anchor the Noon show at FBN.  Have you seen it????? Can you watch Fox Business?  Ya gotta get it, you are missing out, we are having a great time at Noon, more fun than I should be having when also collecting a paycheck.  I would do this for free I think.  But, never mind.....

The Ethics Guy from BusinessWeek, Dr. Bruce Weinstein came on the show today to talk about snooping on your co-workers.  Turns out Bruce and I agree, it is not good, not ethical, and in the story we discussed today, probably illegal to open the private email of someone you work with.  We were talking about Larry Mendte, a Philadelphia news anchor who is being investigated by the FBI for discovering his female co-anchors password to her private account, opening it hundreds of times from his computer, and probably, and we don't know this for sure, leaking stories about her to the media.

Would you do this? Have you ever done this? It feels pretty dark and desperate, but I guess you never know what people will do if they are jealous or petty.  Should he be fired from his job? I say he should, and I think he will be.  This is not only a business story, it is a public story, and if the public doesn't like you, well in television news.......you know:)

Hi Cheryl. You are my favorite Fox Business anchor. Is there any way I can get a signed photo of you?

While it sounds like Larry Mendte is the lowest form of life, people need to understand that NOTHING they are doing on the Internet is very private. Its not terribly uncommon for email to be snooped at the provider level and traffic from your ISP to your home generally provides less privacy than a 90's cordless phone. Companies snoop (think mediadefender or context-sensitive advertisements), the federal government snoops(think Carnivore), and chances are that 14 year old neighbor that fixed your computer that time....ya he snoops. :)

History has been made! Cheryl and I agree about an ethical issue! I love coming on the program and will keep coming back for as long as I'm invited. Always fun to discuss the things that matter most. Stay tuned for some more lively debates between Cheryl and me! (I think Tom is enjoying all of this, too.)
