The Romney Effect and Other Blogs I'll Regret

By the time this blog gets published, John McCain will have chosen his running mate.  I have not talked to him, and I am hearing the same rumors as you.  I believe it will be Mitt Romney, and if it is, it will change the direction of the polls and John McCain's future.  I am not politically endorsing anyone, and I don't know how I'll feel come November, but Romney IMO would be the guy to take the economic plan by the backside and turn it around.

Even if it wasn't Romney, I'd hope McCain would promise to appoint him to a prominent post.  The guy did well at Bain Capitol, and I usually trust the former Wall Street guy or gal (think Paulson, again IMO) when they decide to serve the public.

But I digress.  I would like Romney to come up with a three pronged plan for the economy.  First, vow to leave Fannie and Freddie as government sponsored bodies that still trade publicly.  Second, impose greater regulation on the investment banks, just like regular banks. Enough is enough.  Finally, get a plan in place that will strengthen the dollar.  At least make it a stronger priority than Ben Bernanke has.

Of course, by the time I hit "publish" he will have picked someone else.

Diane moderation blog means that the moderator,Cheryl approves or disapproves it. Don't worry I have the same issue of not seeing my comments too from time to time. No worry I come back there are my comments. I hope I answered your question.

It is such a pity that Mc did not select Romney. He was and is the far best candidate the Republicans had and it should have been Romney-Mc at best! He is sharp, sound and the Dems won't find any dirt on him. They were scared to death of him. Maybe, 2012.....time to unseat the Dems.

May I be the first to say it: Wrong! Romney didn't lose the primaries because of the media. He lost because he has no principles and because Iowa wasn't buying what he was selling.

I agree it should have been Romney. I like governors to either be Pres or Veep. He is also someone that has experience in fiscal matters. I do believe that Romney could have helped McCain win Michigan as well. I will support McCain/Palin because he did choose a governor and I think she will make a great Veep but still would have preferred Romney. Oh well I guess I can't have it my way!

Boy you guys WISH he picked Romney now! Woe is us. . .and if he wins, woe is US.

Well I would have loved Mitt to be the VP choice but the choice he made of Palin will work good too. Should McCain just do one term can you imagine a race with Palin against Hillary in 2012.

Well Senator McCain made history this week. Would you believe it? I had this gut instinct he would do something out of the box. Now that Gov Palin of Alaska is now VP Palin; McCain has taken the oppertunity that Senaotor Obama missed. McCain has made the historic first of having a woman vp. Honestly for both parties it has been a historic first. What could do in the Democrats now? Real simple: the fact they're against offshore drilling and the fact thier left wing talkshow hosts and bloggers could do them damage. Yet historically Cheryl it's a first for both parties. Just got to think about the future.

It's not about the next four years, it's about 2012. Romney will be the Repblican candidate then and needs to be VP now for that to work according to plan. Long-time Romney pal Meg Whitman was listed by McCain as a trusted adviser.. Why else can it be but Romney?

I HOPE IT'S ROMNEY. He's basically Superman in everything. I can't wait to see the look on Huckabee's face and all his inbred, bigot friends when McCain picks a Mormon for VP.

I hope it is Romney. He would be the best VP and would certainly help this country with his valuable expertise. McCain * Romney '08!! The Dream Team!!

Though I too would prefer a McCain/Romney ticket, I believe McCain will pick Pawlenty as his VP running mate -- Just a hunch.

The seige in this country is by illegal aliens. They are bankrupting our hospitals, schools and turning our once decent towns into drug, meth and prostituion rings. Go to www.760kfmb.com to see what the NORMAL AND SANE people are taling about. If we don't get McCain and hopefully Romney in....this country will be too far gone to save. Get the facts and tell your liberal friends that if they want more taxes, more illegal immigrants, national healthcare like they have to endure and wait for in Europe and the UK, more radical groups and Marxist running the country, more tearing down of our founding ideals and faith, more limitations on what we can see and hear with the "Fairness Doctrine" designed to take out Fox News and conservative talk radio, more failing schools that have bigger budgets and yet continue to not perform, more crime, more inflation, more sapping of our natural resources due to taking care of other countries populations, more diseases, more epidemics, more food sources polluted due to encampments, more murderers, more child molesters flocking in to our country, more of the same THEN they should vote for the BareAct Obamanation. http://www.meetbarackobama.com/ find out what the liberal biased lying media won't tell you INFORMATION IS POWER! Housing starts are up. Stock market up 200 points. Unemployment pretty low. Gas down in price. My husband is from Holland. His country was taken over by the Turks and Muslims. The crime is up, the people on welfare from other countries living in Holland is up, the jobs are scarce, the political correctness is disgusting and these new invaders keep asking for things in their myriad of languages and laws to be changed. We are under seize in this country by La Raza, radical gangs, sleeper cells and liberal poliicies and political correctness that is killing our country. We will end up just like Rome if we don't protect and preserve the GREATEST countyr on earth. Vote for the most conservative candididate in local, state and national elections if you want your country to be like it used to be instead of the crime invested 3rd world country it is beoming. The liberals will take from others to support the low lifes in this country. There are plenty of faith based and community services for the poor. IT's the middle class that has to grow if you want a strong economy. I never got a job from a poor person. We need companies and less regulations, lower taxes to grow our economy. Obama has gone back on his word on almost everything. He said on camera (see you tube) I will not run for President (after becoming a Senator) because I am not experienced enough. He said he would take public finances---he broke his word, he said he was on the Senate Finance Committe---he is not. He said he would not go negative--he has. He said he would respect Clinton---he disrespected her and her base. He said he would take troops out. Now he wants to send more to Afghanistan. He said he did not take lobbist money. He is backed by SOROS, Move On and trial lawyers. He said he is not a bigot yet he stayed 20 years in a racist church, he said he was a baby when Ayres bombed fed buildings. Yet he was an adult when he became friends and let him raise money for him. He bought his house with tax payer's dolalrs and a convicted felon Rezko's help. EDUCATE YOURSELVES --0--As a voter and an American you can not vote for someone who is so wrong for our country. www.townhall.com www.realclearpolitics.com www.seanhannity.com www.hughhewitt.com www.michellemalkin.com

Please watch this video to learn how the Left lied and distorted Romney's reputation because they are so afraid of this good and fine man. Mitt Romney is the real deal they are just a pack of wolves and care only about three issues. Same sex marriage, abortion on demand and/or as birth control, "global" warming---yet we are only to blame for it. What about China and India's role in the issue as the BIGGEST polluters. Why are they not lampooned? Obama is a radical, no accomplishments, no record, connected to crooks, a product of Chicago Mayor Daley politics and a pacifist. This is not the time for appeasers and tree huggers. WE LIVE IN DANGEROUS TIMES AND WE NEED A MAN WITH SKILLS AND BALLS TO RUN THE COUNTRY, not a philosophical wimp like Obama. The left and the radical Democrats are dangerous and will further destroy our country, crumble our religious foundations, remove our ability to defend ourselves and other emerging democracies and screw things up more. The economy is doing just fine...interest rates low (remember Carter and 17% rates). Remember the gas lines. Remember the hostage crisis and regular hijackings of the 70's. The dems are not fit to run a drug store let alone a country. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5jjV6lRVxI

Please click the link above to see the video that goes through the lies and distortions made against Romney one by one and show how the left tried to destroy him. The reason? He's the real deal. A true patriot. My husband is Catholic and I'm Lutheran. We should be electing the MOST qualified, dignified, honorable, educated, decent, diplomatic, self-made, accomplished, trustworthy...the best of the rest. The left will try to destroy him again because he solved healthcare in his state as Gov. He balanced the budget, he had friends on both sides, he solved problems. He never flipped on anything. He hired a crew to cut his lawn. THAT company hired illegals. Was it his job to card them? FIGHT BACK AGAINST THE LIES AND TELL PEOPLE ABOUT THIS EXTRAORDINARY FINE GOOD MAN!

Romney is by far the best for the job. Frankly he was the best for the Presidential job but this will be a good lead in to 2012. The guy is smart, a good family man and what this country needs. He also brings votes from those who are not sold on McCain.

The Dems are ready to spew hostility at anyone they think John McCain might pick. Romney and Pawlenty are good picks, so they are starting the trash machine. Unfortunately for the Dems, none of the top people on McCain's list have any ties to the sitting president. They can't make this about the past election!

August 28, 2008 at 6:21 pm

We missed an opportunity when we did not choose Governor Romney as the presidential candidate. Let's hope Senator McCain does the next best thing and brings him in as his VP choice. He is the most experienced, the smartest, the most principled, and the most competent of all the candidates. He is the most qualified to be the one who is only a heartbeat away....and he would eat Biden's lunch between now and November.

I love Romney. He's one of the very few out there with enough of a spine to tell the media about the issues for what they really are. Romney is difficult to compete with from so many angles; you can't bribe him, he already has money and is as clean as a whistle as far as his life and family goes, you can't discredit him, he's educated and speaks his mind regardless of what others think, you can't play him down because he's a proven success in the free market economy, management, and government. When he took office as Governor he inherited a $3 Billion deficit left over from his democratic predecessor. In 4 years he translated that into a $1 Billion surplus. You can’t fool with him: When socialists at Harvard University invited Iranian terrorist Mohammed Khatami to speak at graduation, Romney denied state security and strongly spoke out. When William Bulger (a powerful government figure in Massachusetts) refused to assist the FBI in disclosing the whereabouts of his brother Whitey Bulger, a mobster on the FBI’s "10 Most Wanted" list, sought in connection with 21 murders, Romney publically spoke out and forced him from office in 2003. When the Big Dig began to collapse, killing 38 year old Milena Del Valle (the most expensive and expansive urban development project in the history of the Untied States) – Within 72 hours of the accident, Gov. Romney had won emergency permission from the legislature to seize direct control of safety inspections of the tunnel system, ousting Mass Transit Authority CEO Matthew Amorello in 2004. Utelizing free-market principles, Romney constructed and implemented a groundbreaking free-market healthcare system that in two years realized a decline of 37 percent of individuals seeking state-funded free-care at the ER. State payments for treating those people fell from $166 million to $98 million - a drop of 41 percent (Forbes ). He lead the fight against gay marriage in Massachusetts without apology. Romney reformed the state's corrupt auto insurance industry, effectively breaking up the tight cartel, refusing to give-in to ring-leader pressures. And on and on. And yet, Romney NEVER once collected a paycheck for his public service. He is a Statesman. I'm beginning to more fully understand why evangelical leaders hate him (he won't be bought, bullied, or forced into their political interests), media hates him because he highlights the truth for what it really is, and Democrats hate him because he a legitimate, charismatic threat to their political agenda. We need more men like Romney in Washington.

Romney makes perfect sense. He will be strong on the economy; he will help move MI, OH, some western states, and possibly PA into the McCain column; and he will perform well against O'Biden in the debates and on the campaign trail. I also share the view that the liberals are afraid of Romney and that the media were trying their best to submarine Romney's campaign. I hope McCain will choose Sarah Palin if he doesn't go with Romney. I really like her on the issues and I think she would smoke Biden in their debate. That said, I have my fingers crossed for Romney.

Personally, I never liked the guy. He gives off a bad vibe. I just sense something genuinely snake oil about him. Perhaps a republican version of Bill Clinton. Maybe it's the hair. Maybe it's the mormonism. He just doesn't seem genuine. I'll bet the guy hasn't fired a rifle in his lifetime. Plus, any republican that could get elected as governor in a New England state is not some one I'd trust. I really don't know why you are so up on Paulson either. Stong dollar policy? Laughable. It's apparent to me that Paulson is nothing more than a market cheer leader and a tool of banking establishment. An unlimited line of credit to fannie and freddie is insanity. I don't know why anyone would buy this nation's debt. It's quite apparent they the real purchasing power of the dollars paid back to our debt holders is going to disappear through inflation/currency debasement.

We must be informed voters. Pleae check facts out on factcheck.org / snopes.com etc. I used to support Mc Cain, But he is no longer the man ( a maverick ) he once was. He has flipped on many urgent issues ..Tax breaks for the wealthy ( was once against it ) huge tax breaks ( billions ) for big oil as well as huge corporations, he switched votes on energy policy, voted no on increased Veterans benefits, voted 15 times against an increase in the minimum wage! Let's not believe the ads, or 30 second spots, or misleading statement. Most of those behind that will do anything to lose all their huge breaks and sweet heart deals..Cheney even wrote his energy policy to help big oil ! Recall the 'Enron loophole?' check it out on google..Cheney / Mc Cain and Sen Gramm all pushed it thru..it allowed Sen Gramms wife to make 900 K on the deal, and Enron's employess to lose all their 401 K and savings plan. Let's not be fooled this time. SO much is a stake for our country.

I had hoped that Mitt Romney would be our candidate for President - but I'll take him as VP!! The fact that the dems hate him only pushes the point home - he will be an asset to the ticket as well as to the United States. Hopefully McCain will use good judgement on this one!

We have the greatest economy in the history of mankind. The discontinuity we are experiencing right now is the same we experienced during the industrial revolution. The world economy is changing and changing at a rapid rate. We need leaders that will guide us safely through without destroying what we have built. I believe Mitt Romney is the best individual at our disposal to help us through it. If the democratic government has full control, they will totally disrupt the structure until it tumbles.

Gee, I hope its Mitt Romney -- He's a rare breed in politics these days and deserves a lot of respect for his many accomplishments, family, business and investment knowledge. This would also set up the conservatives perfectly for 2012. McCain has preformed admirably lately and has been on right target, selecting Romney would wrap this up. Obama is so handled, geez I hate to use the term "empty suite" but it fits. Obama's out front but I'd sure like to know who's really behind him.

McCain/Romney ticket is a sure win. Romney can swing Michigan's 17 electoral voted from Obama, which would give McCain a 23 vote lead nationally. Romney/Jindal in 2012!

I will be devastated if it's not Romney. Mitt Romney and Hillary Clinton were the very best VP chooses for both parties. John McCain, please choose Mitt Romney! I like this quote: Forward- and backward-thinking Republicans should resist the temptation to push for safer choices for VP, and to all those who want a shot at it, McCain would be wise to say, "You, sir, are no Mitt Romney." http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080828/OPINION05/80828052/1068/opinion

I would love to see McCain freak out the dinosour mainstream press and give leftie talk show host Ed Schultz who has been talking down McCain one large ulcer. No,I would love to see a shock and awe in the press that even Speaker Pope Pelosi couldn't stomach. New Allies: Rocky and Bullwinkle the moose.

Cheryl is right-on. Romney has the potential to do wonders for the economy. His net worth ($200+ million?) should stand as an example, as well as his experience as a Governor, and commanding the 2002 Winter Olympics. All of those give him what it takes to be V.P., if not at least hold a high-ranking position in the McCain administration.

August 28, 2008 at 2:41 pm

McCain/Romney 08!

The mainstream media worked HARD in the primaries to take out Romney. They propped up Huckabee, McCain and smeared Romney in everyway they could. They even had to go back 25 years to mention a family vacation with a dog! That's how desperate they were! Romney's the BEST pick for VP! And you know it by the liberals deranged hatred of him! McCain/Romney 08!
