    Redistribute? Someone Says Yes

I was on FNC this morning with Bill Hemmer and Megyn Kelly  (how great are they?) and they were talking about Barack Obama and comments he made back in 2001 on a Chicago radio station.  Why I think this matters to a business audience is pretty obvious.  How will you be taxed as an individual? How will you be taxed as a small business?  An idea that was floated around on the House Labor and Education Committee last week was eliminating tax breaks when you contribute to your 401K.  Yes, you will have to contribute to your retirement account after taxes, not before.  How would that sit with the American public?

So back to these comments.   Obama talks about using the Supreme Court to spread the wealth.

Barack Obama: "But the Supreme Court never ventured into the issues of redistribution of wealth and the more basic issues of political and economic justice in this society, and to that extent, as radical as, I think, people try to characterize the Warren court, it wasn't that radical; it didn't break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the Founding Fathers and the Constitution...."

Barack Obama:  You can craft theoretical justification for it legally, and any three of us sitting here could come up with a rationale for bringing about economic change through the courts.

Obama basically wants higher income and investment taxes.  Tax the top five percent and redistribute to the other 95% and you deal with the problem of inequality.  Some pundits call this the new "welfare state."

Should the courts be in charge of that?

What is absolutely pitiful is that few people have read both of Obama's books. If one would read them one would know that at a minimum he is a Socialist and that he comes pretty close to being a Marxist. But he's smart enough not to call himself either. His associations with Ayers, Wright, and the others can be simply explained -- birds of a feather flock together.

(seen on a mailing list) In a local restaurant my server had on a "Obama 08" tie, again I laughed as he had given away his political preference--just imagine the coincidence. When the bill came I decided not to tip the server and explained to him that I was exploring the Obama redistribution of wealth concept. He stood there in disbelief while I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone who I deemed more in need--the homeless guy outside. The server angrily stormed from my sight. I went outside, gave the homeless guy $10 and told him to thank the server inside as I've decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was grateful. At the end of my rather unscientific redistribution experiment I realized the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn even though the actual recipient deserved money more. I guess redistribution of wealth is an easier thing to swallow in concept than in practical application. Happy socialism to all, and to all a good night!

Listen to the whole interview. Mr. Obama emphasizes that the legislature is where such change is designed to take place. He was commenting on the fact that the Warren court stayed within the boundaries intended for it by the Constitution. As a lifelong registered republican, I am appalled that the party has sunk to abandoning a real dialogue that is based upon the tenets of its own belief system, in favor of a never-ending series of soundbyte spin dujour. Republicans have become the "label-it" party. It's an insult to any rational person's intelligence. Add that to the party's incomprehensible drift from its fundamental principles over the last decade, and I've decided to put the entire party in the penalty box until it figures out what it really stands for. I'm voting for B. Obama and straight democrat down the entire national ticket. Will reevaluate in four years.

every resident of the state of Alaska receives a yearly check for $3269 paid for by taxes from big oil companies. how is this not "redistribution of wealth" and why is Sarah Palin not labeled a Socialist?

I own a business and work 60+ hours a week.I did not spend the last 19 years building my company to have the government redistribute my income to people sitting around poping out one welfare baby after another. Fortunately 48 % of my income is derived from foreign accounts and I am in a position to move my assets to the Netherlands with a 23 % corporate tax rate or to Ireland with an 11 % tax rate. A large number of companies are in a similar position so the idiots had best think twice about this move to socialism.

It is so sad that the vast majority of voters are unaware of Obama's socialist and leftist views. The mass media does a poor job of uncovering this info. This article illustrates that despite his Harvard law education, Obama fails to understand the meaning of checks and balances as defined in the Constitution and why the Supreme Court should not be making law, but rather interpreting law according to the U.S. Constitution.

"To take from one, because it is thought that his own industry and that of his fathers has acquired too much, in order to spare others, who, or whose fathers have not exercised equal industry and skill, is to violate arbitrarily the first principle of association, 'the guarantee to every one of a free exercise of his industry, and the fruits acquired by it.'" -- Thomas Jefferson What did the author of our consitution mean by this statement and how exactly does Obama dance around his "mis" statements or what he menas that day or the next it is impossible to judge. But what ever his comments are today or tomorrow it is clear he is along way from believing anything the authors of our constitution did.

How is Obama going to swear to uphold the Constitution when he believes it to be flawed and based on negative law? He has shown even through his parsing of words(which the greedy and lazy sheep follow)that he has disdain for the Constitution and those who wrote it.

She who is tired of the commercials

I am just plain old tired of hearing how people making over 250,000 are not having their taxes raised with his plan. Call me doubtful, but I am assuming they are talking MARRIED FILING JOINTLY with a few DEPENDENTS. Has anyone calculated when the SINGLES w/o DEPENDENTS would have their taxes raised? You know, those folks that DO NOT have the luxury of having two people with the potential to contribute to a joint household income?

The problem that has faced every socialist state is that the wealth has to be created before it can be redistributed. Our government does not have this ability. Oil rich nations like Saudi Arabia can pull it off as long as there is oil under the sand and prices are high. I am thankful I was not alive for the "Great Society" or "Carternomics." Johnson and Carter both had a Democrat controled House and Senate and unless a liberal has rewritten the economic history of those administrations they were not by any means great moments in US Economic Policy. Everyone knows that if Sen. Obama performs poorly that he can be replaced in 4 years. It seems that everyone forgets his judicial apointments cannot be replaced in anthe next election. Those appointments are for life and it could take a generation or more to repair the damage done in only 4 years. Imagine if Civil Rights were interpreted to mean that those too lazy to work have the "right" to be supported by everyone elses efforts.

The court has no business redistributing wealth. The ACLU (American Communist Litigation Unit) would love for the courts to do that. It is sad to see so many mis-informed people in this country. They typically vote for the democrats.

October 28, 2008 at 12:43 pm

The issue isn't whether the Courts can, the issue is that there are folks who want a seat on the Court and others who already are sitting there who will decide that "economic justice" is a right and will decree accordingly. We're screwed anyway you look at it with a Democrat in the White House, Democrats controlling the House, and also controlling the Senate. They will get what they want whichever way they want to do it. I'm taking my money and putting it in my mattress.

CC Think of a Knowledge Economy as the change agent. Wealth distribution,a left over idea of the cold war. Within the new economy prosumers are empowered all over the global marketplace. Le't go further with this new economy. Empowered prosumers are no longer controled by the state, new revenue streams crated by prosumers destroy the old wealth distrubution wave idea completely. For power of the indiviual has taken over. When indivuals have knowledge to generate new revenue streams politicians failed ideas could be the thing of the past. As a GenXer,baby buster which I'm proud of--could my generation along with wise boomers transcend the old industriual market economies into a Knowledge economy. Honestly the old ideas of the 20th century would be swept away in a Knowledge Economy change. Becouse the future business leaders would know that the old ideas of change wouldn't work.

Im so tired of all the Tax break talks of Obama...nobody needs "tax breaks" or "Welfare checks" that dont even pay taxes. What would they spend it on anyways? Ill tell you...things they NEED like food, clothing for kids for school, maybe take their family out to dinner that they couldnt afford. But in actuality what they really need, is education to better themselves, so they can GET that better paying job to better provide for their families. GIVING things to people fixes it for only a split second until that fix is gone, enabling people to fix it themselves, alows for them to constantly have that fix available. It comes down to a little girl I saw on the News. New Jersey schools were doing a kiddie voter event, and this little girl stated "Obama wants to give everyone a fish, McCain wants to give everyone a fishing pole so they can catch more fish"...OMG we need to listen to our children because we sure are FREEKING up this great nation!

Very scary indeed... and I have yet to figure out his "trickle up economics"??? Sorry, but where I come from, it works the other way! I would much rather "spread the wealth" to charities of my own choosing, thank you very much!

from jims the democrat, The Supreme Court should not be used by "whats his name" to make social and tax legislation. This is move taken by most socalist states to mandate their programs. This is a matter of legislation not court decree.

Anyone who thinks that the Warren court "wasn't that radical" has an interesting definition of what radical is, and it is indicative of just how radical his own thinking is. Further, the only thing unbelievable about the quotes from Obama is that he actually said it out loud. Anyone that has been paying attention should know this is how many (most?) people on the left think and believe. If you don't think higher taxes will result from an Obama presidency you simply aren't paying attention. What should scare people is the part of the quote that says: "it didn’t break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the Founding Fathers and the Constitution…." This is a striking statement and reveals an interpretation of the constitution and its purpose that is utterly radical. Forget seeing the constitution as a "living document", that "evolves" to include any number of things depending on how the popular winds blow. This is not evolution, this is an utter re-write of the constitution without all of the pesky conventions and public opinions/voting. It is absolute rule by judges and the courts and (not coincidentally) lawyers. The notion that the "constraints that were placed by the Founding Fathers and the Constitution" that limit the powers and authority of the government are bad things that need to be overcome is frightening beyond words. Just imagine the people that a President Obama would nominate for the Supreme Court based on the above line of thinking.

If BO gets in and the Dems get their supermajority, and they start implementing this "Redistribution" Socialist agenda do they expect the population to just roll over and take it? Suppose we wave the big finger at them? What will they do then? Send out the armed IRS thugs to confiscate your stuff? Impose marshal law? I wonder how many Americans would be willing to actually take up arms and go to war over this? Not many I suspect. It's easier to be a sheep.

None of this should be a surprise to anyone. Just think, how many folks would contribute to a 401K if the contributions were after taxes? People would find other vehicles to hold their money. Mattresses, cans buried in yards and I could go on. It’s no great revelation that the left has been trying in earnest to subvert the wealth building systems that everyone has access to. They would like the Supreme Court to become a legislative body so that they can pass blame on those justices who are not elected and hold those seats for life. If we give up 401K’s, IRA’s, and other tax friendly investments, we will be indentured to the government for our sole source of income. Hmmmmmm? We vote in 7 days and it’s not just for the President. There will be seats in the House, the Senate, and whoever becomes President, will most likely have some picks for the Supreme Court. I am chewing my finger nails down to the third knuckle on this but I am preparing some soft dirt in my back yard to stash cash.

The hell they will! Get everyone you know out to vote against this horrible economic plan of Obamas. If you think this recession is bad, wait until he commits 2 of the 3 sins that caused the depression after the 29 crash.

I totally agree with Alex. The main problem with Supreme Court through the years is overstepping their judicial responsibilities by legislating instead of interpreting the constitution. What's scary is that Obama can make these statements, along with the what he said to Joe the Plummer, clearly describing a Socialist mentality, and his followers don't seem to care. Maybe they need everything and have no ability.

Cheryl____We have enough to chew on without going back to some comment made eight years ago by Obama about the Supreme Court, who decided in their great wisdom to appoint Bush as president instead of letting democracy take it`s course. Also, as for ridiculous comments, how about McCain talking about endless war that could be needed, perhaps for up to 100 years? Would that idea be something our country would benefit from? Obama`s idea is to return the tax system back to what it was before the Bush cuts which benefitted the wealthy much more than the middle class. At that time we had a budget surplus to pay for needed infrastructure in our own country instead of in Iraq as is our present situation, leaving nothing but enormous debt for future generations. As statistics show, the wealth has been distributing up at an alarming rate since the last tax cuts from the middle class to the rich and to the corporations, and reports are that only one half of corporations pay any tax. If people think that is a desirable situation for growth in our country, they are welcome to their opinion, but it is not accurate to portray Obama`s plan as just taking from "working people" to give to those not able or willing to take care of themselves. One wonders why if the present system got our country in the disaster we now have, with daily increases of forclosures, job losses, credit problems, budget deficits, lost retirement funds, no health care for millions, and 10 billion thrown away each month in Iraq, that we should look favorably on more of the same. Our country is in danger and people should stop the petty remarks and work for a solution to the problems.

Sen. Obama has the makings of a socialist type when saying things like "redistribution of wealth". If the legal system mandates this, at his whim, it will bring about a catastrophe. The '5 percent' will shrink from the get go, till there are no upper income earners left to finance this idea. The world is a big place, and big companies have no obligation to stay in any given country, they will just move away with all the jobs ect. Personaly I believe we are in for a hard time ,no matter who wins.

Well the congress just taxed us with out listening to the people. And Bush Stated the constition was a piece of paper, and has treated it like toilet paper. Why the hell not let the Justices have a wack at it, can they be any worse then the other 2? I keep dreaming that one of the branches of government will actually start doing what they are supposed to do and get out of what they are not supposed to do. My hope is BO will win and by the time he is done may be the elite left will have no where left to run. Once the working class is turned into the new slave class the people will finally WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This country has been systematically destroyed. The constitution has been picked apart. This is now a defining moment in history in which we are to become a police state. We will now all become middle class. We will all be the same. There will only be one media opinion allowed. The communists are about to win. It will be a long road back to democracy. Get ready to protect your home your property and your family. The colleges are nothing more than a liberal breeding ground for years. Would you want your child in Bill Ayers class? OUR TIME HAS COME and they have destroyed us from within just as my father a WWII veteran has predicted. MAY GOD HAVE MERCY ON OUR SOULS.

OH, NO HE DIDN'T!!! It's amazing that I am discussing the Supreme Court on a financial blog, but OMFG...WTF??? Anyway, the Supreme Court, ever since the Warren Court, has turned its judicial wrecking ball on everything in its path. Law, order, and justice have been ultimately rendered meaningless in this country, and the Warren Court can assume a hefty share of the blame. Bottom line, the Supreme Court is there to INTERPRET the laws, not make them by judicial decree. To answer your question Cheryl...NO. Sadly, the masses of young skulls full of mush are ignorant/unaware of this piece of information, and will sweep Obama into the White House.
