Cheryl, you are so right. The best strategic move Mister Softy could make ( and a good long term idea for the company ), would be to offer an operating system that actually works. After years of "wrangling" their half baked and half repaired operating systems, I finally said enough is enough. I've converted everything to Linux ( Hardy Heron ).An almost duplicate of Office is available for free. Stable, fast, and easy to run.Everything there is free.., including some VERY brilliant people that provide support and advice in open forums. It sure beats having the hardware people blame the operating system and Microsoft blaming the hardware..,while you get to sit there with your new "paperweight". With Microsoft's corporate attitude and Apple's more stable OS.., I doubt even giving away Office for free, is going to keep people loyal to Windows. I think Mister Softy can hear the foot steps coming up behind them.

Mort Zuckermann's opinion piece in the WSJ today hits the nail on the head. Too bad the Wall Streeters aren't in the trenches with guys like me or they would understand understand what is happening. Most of the vehicles we have been selling for the last six weeks are "must" purchases, not "want to" purchases. So don't think last month's better car sales figures are a reflection of consumer confidence. It's not happening and Geithner's pronouncements put him in competition with Baghdad Bob for " Most Out of Touch".
