I Survived the Triathlon, Hudson Not Really

I think it took me all week to talk about the NYC Triathlon, and especially to blog about it.  I hope I never see the water in the Hudson River ever again!

First, it was an amazing race, and I had a good time (3:23) which was in the range of my goals.  Now, let's discuss the first time anyone does a Triathlon and how it is common to panic.  Are you lost? Well, I was definitely lost!  No one told me about the strong, almost certain possibility, that I would PANIC at the swim start. I couldn't breathe, and kept thinking "what was I thinking, I am going to drown in the Hudson."

Obviously, I didn't, but if you saw the brown loads of crap that are IN the Hudson, you might want to.  I swam through debris, got kicked in the face, and swallow a lovely combination of salt water and oil.  I think Sully left it behind just for me.

When I emerged from the swim, my face was covered in oil.  I know this because the pictures from the race will never see the light of day.  Liz is threatening to sue, and I am with her with my attorney on standby.  We looked like coal miners.

Then the fun part: the bike ride.  I channeled my best Lance Armstrong and kicked some serious booty.  I passed a bunch of people, didn't get a flat tire, and felt great for 25 miles.

The run through Central Park after a jaunt down 72nd street was tough because it was muggy. Did I mention the rain and lightning at 4am? I remember thinking I didn't want to be struck in the Hudson by lightning.  I didn't want to be kicked either.

Cheryl Comgratulations on completing the triathlon and meeting your goals. Very inpressive! Hope that you never have to swim in the Hudson again. The Hudson was full of crap when I was a kid growing up in New York. I watch you and Tom regularly on FBN. Keep up the great work.

On the bright side, think about all that oil you removed from the Hudson. How many birds are alive today because of what you did? Cudos Cheryl!

Glad you survived the triathlon and the HUDSON. You would have to wonder why any organized event would subject participants to the oil and garbage that "lives" in the river. Anyway, I try to watch you and Tom daily on FBN and I check out your blog several times each week. Keep up the great work - I find you to bring the perfect mix of brains, beauty and personality to FBN. I'm moving from North Jersey to Lancaster County PA in December and the cable carrier in that area does NOT currently have FBN - so I have already started to "DEMAND IT".
